Patrick Mabedi, the interim head coach of the Malawi national team, has announced his final 27-man squad for Saturday’s Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations match against Guinea at Bingu National Stadium in the nation’s capital, Lilongwe.
Group D includes Malawi along with Guinea, Ethiopia, and Egypt. Malawi and Ethiopia were already out after only 4 points in 5 games.
Missing from the squad is striker Gabadinho Mhango plays for Swallows of South Africa and Khuda Myaba who is now in Syria. Also dropped is Kabwe Warriors attacker Chifundo Mphasi.
He also omitted Patrick Mwaungulu, an aggressive midfielder who excelled during the Cosafa competition.
Other notable faces not in the squad are Chikoti Chirwa, Yamikan Chester, Lloyd Njaliwa, Blessings Singini and Gaddie Chirwa.
Mabedi has looped in four foreign based players namely captain John Banda of UD Songo, Costa Do Sol striker Richard Mbulu, Zanaco forward Chawanangwa Kaonga and goalkeeper Brighton Munthali of Black Leopards.

Afcon record holders Egypt has 12 points and Guinea with 9 points, both sides qualified to the next Afcon in Ivory Coast.
