Comoros will host Malawi at Bingu on Sunday because the islanders have no CAF approved stadium to host matches.

Malawi National football team have started the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations ( AfCON) qualifiers on a low after a 3-2 loss to Burundi at Bingu National Stadium on Thursday.

Comoros’ plan to host their African Nations Championship (CHAN) match versus Malawi at Malawi’s Bingu National Stadium has sparked further demands.

Comoros will host Malawi at Bingu on Sunday because the islanders have no CAF approved stadium to host matches.

Because of this, Comoros has requested Malawi to handle other services, such as paying referees for a match Comoros will host, covering their lodging and venue fees.

Since the Flames are not travelling, their FA is saving over K142 million on travel expenses. Bingu stadium will host a rematch on March 8.

A source from Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has told BolaNews in Malawi that Comoros delegation who arrived last week had asked them to cater for other bills.

“They asked them [FAM] to cater hotel expenses, paying referees and the stadium or else FAM should negotiate stadium fees with the Malawi government,” said the source.

The source said FAM given in to some services like paying of referees but refused to handle their accommodation in Malawi and stadium fees.

According to FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda, Comoros did write them, but since the issue hasn’t been resolved yet, their request is unfeasible.

“We agreed to help them in terms of organizing matches and transport but not taking charge of other areas, they have requested,” he said.
