Two Zambian Super League players, Ian Otieno and Dennis Nganga, have been named to the Harambee Stars provisional squad for the highly anticipated four-nation tournament, which will take place in Malawi from March 18 to 26, 2024.
Kenya head coach Engin Firat has unveiled his provisional squad, which includes ZESCO United goalkeeper Otieno and Zanaco defender Nganga.
Firat has also included some of Kenya’s overseas players, including captain Michael Olunga, a prolific striker who plays for Duhail in Oman, Ayub Timbe from Sebail in Azerbaijan, and Joseph Okumu, a defensive stalwart from Reims in France.
Former ZESCO United midfielder Teddy Akumu has also been called, while starlet Alphonce Omija, has received his first senior national team call-up.
Alongside the youngster, Firat has also included newcomers Shariff Musa, Bonphas Munyasa, Chris Erambo, and Kaycie Odhiambo, who have also been handed their maiden national team call-ups.
Firat has also brought back John Avire to bolster the team’s attacking options and provide additional firepower upfront, where Olunga is expected to play a more consolidated role.
The four-nation tournament will have national teams from Zambia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, as the four teams aim to fine-tune their tactics for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2025 AFCON Qualifiers.
