Zambian international Kennedy Musonda has been named as the Young African (Yanga) SC’s most potent player when it comes to finding the back of the net, particularly with the head.

Yanga winger Jesus Ducapel Moloko was asked to assemble the perfect player from the outstanding abilities of his club teammates. In the club’s #CreateYourPlayerChallenge, the Congolese playmaker named Musonda as his first choice in the categories of goalscoring and heading.

No player in the current squad has scored more non-penalty goals for the club than Musonda.

Since his transfer from Power Dynamos in January, the Zambian has netted eight official goals for Yanga.

Meanwhile, for the best right and left foot, Moloko chose Kouassi Attohoula and Joyce Lomalisa, respectively. Tanzanian midfielder Zawadi Mauya was named the perfect tackler, while Stephane Aziz Ki was named the most reliable penalty taker.

Ivorian playmaker Pacome Zouzoua was given the accolade of being the best dribbler. Additionally, Moloko selected his compatriot, Mpia Nzengeli, as the best at picking out passes. In the category of pace and discipline, the Congolese winger opted for himself.

Musonda and Yanga eye historic Champions League return

These outstanding abilities will come in handy when the Tanzanian outfit aims to make their first CAF Champions League group stage appearance since 1998. Standing in their way is Al-Merrikh from Sudan, who progressed to the next round courtesy of an away goal at Otohô d’Oyo.

In contrast, Yanga obliterated their round 1 opponents, ASAS from Djibouti, 7-1 on aggregate. As a result, the Tanzanian champions are optimistic that they can progress to the group stage.

The business end of last season saw Yanga progress all the way to the CAF Confederation Cup final, where they lost to USM Alger via the away goals rule.

Musonda contributed six goals in that run (three scored and three assisted). He will hope to be just as influential in the CAF Champions League this season.
