“I’m not God” – Bakala on where CAPS United will finish in Zimbabwean league

Zambia's Bakala avoids predicting CAPS United's final position in Zimbabwean Premier League.

CAPS United head coach Ian Bakala says he has no “divine powers” to predict where his side will finish in the ongoing Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League campaign, insisting his focus is solely on the next match as Makepekepe navigate a tough season.

Bakala made the remarks following CAPS United’s 1-1 draw against Triangle United on Sunday afternoon, a result that left the Harare giants sitting in 11th position on the table with 24 points from 20 matches.

“We needed more despite the draw,” Bakala told the media. “I think we conceded a silly goal. It could have been avoided, looking at how the game was. But I’m just happy the boys came back stronger in the second half. We still have work to do.”

With CAPS United struggling to string together consistent results, Bakala emphasised that the team’s only focus right now is on improving performances match by match, especially given how competitive the league has become.

“The league is a marathon. Every team is fighting for points and no one is lazy. We just have to concentrate on ourselves and focus on the next game. It’s very difficult at the moment,” he said.

Pressed on whether he had set a specific target for the team—such as a top-four finish or merely avoiding relegation—Bakala was clear.

“That is too far,” he said. “I’m not God to predict that. I can only talk about the next game. I don’t have divine powers to say where we’ll finish.”

CAPS United next match will be another home fixture against TelOne on Saturday.
