Malawian striker Gabadinho Mhango says his previous omission from the Flames national team was exaggerated.
This was in response to social media stories after he was dropped ahead of World Cup qualifying match against Liberia last November, which Malawi won by a goal to nil.
Patrick Mabedi, the Flames coach has recalled Mhango ahead of the four-nation tourney involving neighbors Zambia, Kenya and Zimbabwe. The tournament, FIFA pilot project will run from 18th to 26 March 2024.
On his return to the Flames, Mhango voiced his displeasure with the way his issue was handled. Mhango said: “It is an amazing feeling to be back in the national team, I enjoy serving my country”.
“Secondly, there is nothing personal between me and the coach; there might have been other issues that led to my exclusion,” he added.
When asked why Mhango was dropped, Mabedi said that the player did not report to camp because he missed the flight.
