Zimbabwe head coach Michael Nees says the Warriors are fully focused on confirming their spot at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations when they face Kenya tomorrow.
The Warriors will take on the Harambee Stars in an important match for the Southern African side that rescued its qualification chances after beating Namibia in back-to-back qualifiers last month.
Zimbabwe is second in Group J with eight points, three points behind already qualified Cameroon, who have 11 points after a goalless draw against Namibia on Wednesday.
Kenya is third with four points, while Namibia is out of contention having collected just two points.
Nees knows that a win over Kenya at the Peter Mokaba Stadium would all but seal their qualification for Morocco next year. He has urged the players to leave nothing to chance.
“We’re looking forward to the match, as in every camp, we have to bring all the players together. We have to get into gear very quickly,” Nees said.
Nees warns against complacent
“We want to have our fate in our own hands, and the better the position, the better [for us]. So, we achieved that, but that doesn’t mean that we should get complacent. We have to do the final step. It is possible, and the players showed good spirits in the first two camps, and I’m sure we will be able to do that now to achieve that.“
Zimbabwe is looking to return to the AFCON after missing the 2023 edition due an 18-month FIFA ban which was lifted in July last year.
They last participated in the competition in 2021 where they were eliminated in the group stage.
