Due to injuries, Zambia U-20 players Richard Ngoma and Joseph Sabobo Banda will not be part of the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, which began last Sunday.
Ngoma sustained a shoulder injury during his Israel side Maccabi Netanya’s league match on Saturday.
Team Doctor Aaron Munkandya has told FAZ media that the two players will miss the tournament.
“With Richard it is very unfortunate,” said Munkonda. “That he is not going to be part of this tournament because he got injured whilst playing his last game before joining camp. The Doctors in Israel are doing everything possible to make sure that he receives the best treatment.”
“The general picture is that most of the players are fit for the tournament apart from Sabobo who has been dropped because of an injury that he is nursing.
“So we going to send him to a medical team in Zambia that is going to continue looking after him. He is going to receive physiotherapy as he recovers there in Zambia. Most of the players are fit and can’t wait for the tournament to start,” concluded the Zambian team doctor.
Zambia U-20 team will kick off their AFCON campaign on Tuesday against Benin.
The junior Chipolopolo will play their second match on Friday against the Gambia before concluding their group games against Tunisia.
