In order to ensure that the Malawi National Football team qualifies for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, players have asked coach Patrick Mabedi and the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to tick all the boxes.
Comments come after Malawi has started badly in the AfCON qualifiers losing all two matches while conceding 6 goals.
Malawi is bottom in group L with no point while Burkina Faso and Senegal are first and second on the table respectively both with 4 points as Burundi is third with 3 points.
Former Flames striker who played in Russia and South Africa Essau Kanyenda said Mabedi needs to be consistent in his selection if we need to qualify.
“It seems like [Mabedi] doesn’t even have a first 11, as a coach this is not good. FAM seems like they are just waiting for Mabedi to lose games so that he can be fired, not knowing it will have a bad impact on them too,” said Kanyenda is staying in England.
Former Flames defender Moses ‘Luba’ Chavula said though Malawi has slim chances to qualify but they can still press all corners to get results.
“We have four games remaining, it is tricky, yes, but I think the coach should focus on bringing players that can give us results“
“Look, he is always playing Chifundo Mphasi in front, the shoes are too big for him, yes he is a good player but you have seen him struggling in front. Gaba Mhango and Richard Mbulu can help us in front,” he said.
The Flames of Malawi will play Senegal at home next month.
