The Chipolopolo boys defeated AfCON defending champions, Ivory Coast 1-0 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

His 43rd-minute strike booked the 2012 AfCON winners their ticket to Morocco 2025 with a game to spare.

Musonda, the Young Africans FC striker expressed his joy in contributing to the Chipolopolo boys’s back to back AfCON qualification.

“For me, Zambia comes first. I am happy to be part of the team and help the team qualify,” Musonda said post-match. “It’s a dream come true. These are the things you dream about when you are young, and to actually do it is incredible.”

Musonda celebrates his goal at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Despite the weight of expectation, the Chipolopolo boys delivered a performance full of grit and determination.

“All we wanted was to get back to AfCON. This is a dream come true,” Musonda added. “I think it was one of our most important games because the team that was chasing us behind (Sierra Leone) we are yet to meet.”

The victory was a continuation of Zambia’s recent dominance over the Elephants, having beaten them 3-0 in June 2023 during the qualification campaign.

Reflecting on the win, Musonda said, “Getting the maximum three points and qualifying, is no better feeling.”

Musonda’s match-winning goal not only helped  Zambia to the continental showpiece but also boosted his confidence ahead of future assignments.

Celebrations.

“It’s a great feeling. It helps me go into other games with much more confidence,” he remarked.

He also encouraged anyone donning the national jersey to give their all for the country.

“Whoever wears that jersey needs to give it all. Today might be me; tomorrow might not be me. But whoever represents the country has to give their all.”
