Cameroon Football Association (FECAFOOT) president Samuel Eto’o has been handed a four-match suspension and fined US$20,000 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following a disciplinary ruling over misconduct.
In a statement issued by CAF’s media department, the continental body confirmed the charge and punishment against the former Cameroon international.
“The CAF Disciplinary Board charged Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT) President Mr Samuel Eto’o Fils with misconduct following the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 fixture between Morocco and Cameroon in Rabat, on 09 January 2026,” the statement read.
“The CAF Disciplinary Board found Mr Eto’o guilty of violating the principles of sportsmanship set out in Article 2(3) of the CAF Statutes and Article 82 of the CAF Disciplinary Code for his misconduct during the said match.
“CAF Disciplinary Board imposed a stadium ban on Mr Samuel Eto’o Fils for the next four (4) official CAF matches played in the context of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025.
“The CAF DC also imposed a fine of USD 20,000.”
The sanction stems from Cameroon’s quarter-final defeat to hosts Morocco, a match in which Eto’o was reportedly seen reacting angrily to decisions made by match officials. CAF president Patrice Motsepe was also present in the stadium during the incident.
Earlier this week, CAF announced it had opened investigations into what it described as “violent confrontations and unacceptable behaviour” involving players and officials during the quarter-final stage of the tournament.
Fecafoot backs Eto’o
FECAFOOT has since rejected CAF’s ruling, questioning the fairness of the disciplinary process and suggesting that fundamental principles of a fair hearing were not observed.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the federation pledged its full support for Eto’o and indicated that an appeal against the decision is expected.
Eto’o, one of Africa’s most decorated former footballers, has faced increasing scrutiny since assuming leadership of FECAFOOT in 2021.
His tenure has been marked by controversy, with critics alleging mismanagement and governance issues within Cameroonian football.
