Comoros opened their 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations campaign on a losing note, going down 2-0 to hosts Morocco on Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
Comoros will now shift attention to their next group A match, against Zambia, who face Mali on Monday.
Second-half goals from Brahim Diaz and Ayoub El Kaabi sealed the victory for the home side against the Islanders.
Morocco dominated possession in the first half but failed to put the ball behind the net due to their opponents’ solid defense.
While Comoros struggled to settle down in the match as Morocco kept on pressing and putting pressure.
Comoros are seeking to go past the knockout stages of the competition on their second appearance at the tournament.
The victory pushed Morocco to the top of Group A with 3 points, while Comoros sits at the bottom with no points.

Reacting to the result, Comoros head coach Stefano Cusin accepted defeat and praised his boys for the spirited fight.
“We were solid defensively. But in this kind of game, when opportunity knocks, you have to take it. The team showed a good face, and Comorians can be proud of their country. We can’t say we played badly because we conceded two goals“
He added “Had Rafiki scored to make it 1-1, the scenario could have been different. Morocco is a great team; we have to accept defeat against such a side,”
