“Too Much for the Boys” – Mutapa Reflects on Fixture Pile-Up

Power Dynamos head coach Oswald Mutapa says fatigue played a role in his team’s second-half performance during their 2-0 victory over Kabwe Warriors in the 2025 ABSA Cup quarterfinal clash at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

The win sets up a semifinal showdown against defending champions Red Arrows as Power Dynamos continue their hunt for both the ABSA Cup and league title.

Speaking after the match, Mutapa admitted his side looked worn out in the latter stages due to a packed fixture schedule.

“Today’s second half, we looked more tired, but we failed to make changes. You know, football has moments, so we are too late even when the boys were tired. Having played about four games in less than twelve days is too much for the boys, but we are happy,” Mutapa said.

Power to Face Arrows in Semifinal

He acknowledged the difficulty in managing player fatigue but emphasized that his technical team will focus on energy conservation during training.

“At this stage, they are very difficult to manage, but, of course, we have to manage them through the way we train. Maybe more tactical than running, and also try and do other means of how we are going to get them fresh for the next game,” he added.

Looking ahead to the semifinal, Mutapa underlined the challenge posed by Red Arrows and stressed the need for a solid game plan.

“It’s another tough game, but we need to plan. I need to plan playing against the champions. This is a team that is on song. So we are a team to beat. We just plan a step further; we are in the final. So we just have to do our best to get to the final,” he concluded.
