Saturday’s ABSA Cup first quarterfinal match saw Forest Rangers and Power Dynamos progress to the semi-finals.
Dynamos, the Super League table-toppers, had to work hard for a 1-0 victory over Mufulira Wanderers.
Super-sub Jacob Kaunda scored the lone goal in the first half to hand the Kitwe giants a 1-0 victory against Mufulira Wanderers.
Meanwhile, in the first game of the day, Cephas Mulombwa’s second-half goal was enough for the Ndola-based side to advance to the semi-finals for the first time.
Rangers coach Ian Bakala is delighted that the team’s first goal in the competition had been met.
“I think our objective has been achieved and I’m happy for my players, especially after losing three games[in the Super League],” he said during the post-match interview.

Bakala believes that all teams in the ABSA Cup have a chance to win the competition.

He added that their semifinal match against Power Dynamos will be treated as a final.
“Any team that remains are fighting to get the ABSA CUP of which even us are doing. So to us the semifinal will be like a final,” he said.
Forest Rangers will now face the Aba Yellow on April 8th, 2023 in the semi-finals in Kitwe.
Dynamos have won the ABSA Cup twice, in 2009 and 2011, and will look to win it for the third time in their history.
They are unbeaten in 16 games and will head into the semifinals high on confidence.
Winners of this year’s ABSA Cup will receive an increased prize money of K700,000 while runners-up will receive K350,000.
