Mufulira Wanderers Football Club head coach Lameck Banda says the target will be to win the 2026 ABSA Cup.
Maite will start the competition in the Round of 16 as they await the winner between Barotse Crocs and Forest Myooye, who are set to clash in the preliminary round.
In an interview, Banda stated that his side will not underrate their opponents.
“I think it is a fair draw, and again, there is no need to underrate any team. These teams, for them to qualify, I think they deserve it. And they are playing very well. If you look at Barotse Crocs, they are a sister club to Kafue Celtics,” he stated.
“So, the knowledge transfer from Kafue Celtics to Baroste Crocs obviously is evident as a result of their qualification; they are doing something good. So we have to be aware of that.”
He also noted that Central Province log leader Forest Myooye has a force to reckon with.
“And also Forest Myooye, they are on top of the league. They are doing fine. So these are teams that we cannot underrate. We shall prepare adequately for either of the two, whichever team will qualify.”
This year’s competition will have the winners walk away with K1.1 million, with the runners-up getting K450 000. Banda reveals that the target is getting the top prize.
“I think there are about three games to play before reaching the final, and it’s an advantage. It’s an advantage if we prepare very well; we could have a chance to be in the finals. I think [prize money] is something that we should fight for. Any team can get it, but I think it’s something that we can get.”
Jumulo Football Club head coach Zimiseleni Moyo says he is confident the Ndola-based side will avoid relegation from the ZPL National League despite their current position near the bottom of the table.
