Mwenya Chipepo, the manager of Power Dynamos football club, has called on supporters to show up in large numbers at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium when his team plays African Stars in the CAF Champions League second leg match.

The Namibian team defeated the Zambian Super League champions 2-1 in the first-leg match, which was held in South Africa.

Aba Yellow fell behind just after 25 minutes as striker Peter Adiwo headed past Lawrence Mulenga to grab the lead.

To restore parity for the Zambians, Andy Boyeli scored a composed goal in the box in response. The Kitwe-based team’s afternoon, however, was going to finish in defeat when they gave up in the 61st minute and dropped the game 2-1.

When quizzed about Power Dynamos back-to-back defeats to Forest Rangers and Young Stars during the pre-match presser, Mwenya Chipepo replied, “Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. We have learned something from those losses. Looking back at last season, we didn’t win every match, so don’t focus much on past results.”

“We now know their [African Stars] strengths and weaknesses. After playing in South Africa and losing to them, we have now studied them. We know where we made mistakes and have strategies and confidence,” said the 2023 Zambian Super League winning coach.

In 1991, Power Dynamos became the first southern African club to win a continental trophy after they won the African Cup Winners’ Cup.

Chipepo further alluded, “We are not just representing Power Dynamos; we are representing Zambia.”
Club captain Godfrey Ngwenya added, “We are the current national team because we are representing Zambia. Fans are assured that, coming tomorrow, with the confidence that we have, we will make them proud.”

Chipepo further pleaded, “When it comes to such games, we not only have the support of Power Dynamos fans but also that of other clubs. When we are playing with a lot of fans, it gives us more courage.

“So, it’s just a matter of time.” – Chipepo.

With a huge crowd, we tend to play very good football as the Power Dynamos. So tomorrow, they are going to motivate us a lot. Hence, I am urging all supporters, including those from ZESCO and Forest Rangers, to come too and enjoy some good football.”

Regarding how long it will take for new signings like Salusani Phiri and Dominic Chanda to adjust, the manager responded, “It could take weeks or even months, so you don’t have to worry. These are experienced players who have played for the national team and abroad. So, it’s just a matter of time.”
