Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu has instructed his Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe to see that the Chipolopolo Boys and the rest of the technical bench receive their winning bonuses in a timely manner in light of Zambia’s qualification for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON).
For qualifying for the AFCON, the government has promised to reward the players an additional $5,000 each.
Zambia beat Ivory Coast 3-0 on Saturday afternoon to qualify for the AFCON in which they last participated in 2015.
Addressing the team after their victory at Levy Mwanawansa stadium, Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu congratulated the team for securing qualification in grand style.
“It is important that we have defeated Ivory Coast, for me it was a revenge they walloped us 3-1 at their backyard and most importantly we have qualified before even playing the last game,” said Nkandu.
The minister added: “I want to congratulate the technical bench. Grant’s first task was to get the squad into the Africa Cup finals, and he succeeded. I also want to announce that there will be a $5,000 winning bonus and a $5,000 prize for qualifying.”
