The Zambia U-23 National Team suffered a 2-0 loss in the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations/ Olympic games qualifiers.
The first half ended in a tie as Zambia managed to keep the score lines level a few attempts on goal.
However, Ibrahim Adel gave the hosts the lead in the second half, scoring with a well-curved shot from the edge of the box in the 72nd minute.
Toward the end of the game, Egypt kept pressing and piling pressure on the Zambian defence.
And with only two minutes left to regulation time, Moustpha Saad extended Egypt’s lead to secure their victory.
The Young Chipolopolo will now have to overturn the two-goal deficit at home on Sunday to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations.
The top three at the U-23 AFCON will automatically qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic games.
Zambia’s men’s football team last qualified for the Olympic games in 1988. They will be hoping for a positive result at home in the return leg in Ndola.
