MTN Super League side, Green Eagles over the weekend beat Zanaco 1-2 at Sunset stadium, to record back-to-back victories ahead of the ABSA Cup.

The victory saw the Choma-based side, move to seventh place on the league standings with 38 points.

They will shift attention to the ABSA Cup when they face National League side, Trident in the quarterfinals.

Eagles coach, Alex Namazaba believes their form in the league will work to his side’s advantage in the ABSA Cup.

Namazaba said that he is happy his side will go into the ABSA Cup on the back of having recorded two wins in a row.

“Every time when you win, it gives you morale and the confidence. I’m happy that we won, before playing ABSA Cup and it gives us morale,” he confidently said.

On his team’s chances in the league, the Eagles gaffer said he is taking every game as a cup final.

“We only have eight games remaining (in the league), and we told our boys that every game is a cup final. If you look at the table, if you drop three points, you are down. And if you win, you go up, and the boys understand that and they will fight,” he said.

Eagles begin their campaign in the ABSA Cup when they play Trident on Sunday at Nkolama stadium.

Winners of this year’s ABSA Cup will receive an increased prize money of K700,000 and Eagles are among the eight teams that are looking to put their hands on it.
