At Kafubu Stadium on Wednesday in a rescheduled week three super league fixture, nine times Zambian champions, Zesco United thrashed Stylish Roan United 4-0.

A brace from Kennedy Musonda and a goal each from Anthony Shipanuka and Yves Allarabaye gave Mwenya Chipepo drilled side, their first away win of the season in emphatic fashion.

Backed by the home fans, Roan started brightly.

Striker Clifford Hamunkoyo called a scary for Zesco when his shot hit the crossbar in the 12th minute.

Later, the away side took control midway through the first half. In the 28th minute, Allan Mumba tested Roan goalkeeper Bweupe Anatole with a long-range drive. Anatole could only parry, and Kennedy Musonda was on hand to pounce from close range, one nil for the Zega Mambo.

Musonda was bought down in the box in the 41st minute.

Referee Leonard Akapelwa awarded a penalty to Zesco.

The striker took the responsibility to slot home his second and take his tally to four goals in five league games this season.

Zesco came out firing in the second half. In the 54th minute, Musonda turned provider, threading a fine pass to Anthony Shipanuka, who finished calmly to make it 3-0, and silence Kafubu.

The result takes Zesco United to second place in Stream B with 8 points, just two behind leaders Green Eagles.

In a post match interview, a satisfied Chipepo said:

“I’m happy; to win away from home is not easy. We were playing a very determined side. I’m pleased with the team’s goal scoring form.”

Roan United remain rooted near the bottom after a harsh lesson from the nine-time champions.
