After winning all seven of their games to start the season on a strong note, the Gunners recorded their first defeat of the season, falling to a 3-0 defeat against Brighton.

Brighton set the tone early in the game as they kept on pressing and took control of the game after scoring the opening goal in the first half.

The defeat has seen Arsenal drop to second place with 21 points from five matches played.

However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reflected on the team’s disappointing result.

“Very disappointed. First of all with the performance and then the result. I think we need to give credit to Brighton as well, the manner that they played today, the way they competed today, and overall I think they deserve to win the game,” said Arteta.

“We need to feel the pain. That’s not going to take away our perspective and how much we value what the team has done in the first six or seven weeks,” he explained.

The former Arsenal boss further indicated that the team has picked up some lessons from their defeat.

“The way we have competed, the way we have played, the way we have dominated—it’s really been good. But today we need to take this lesson very, very seriously because it’s going to happen,” he said.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will now shift focus to their next match when they host Leeds United on 10th October.
