ABSA Cup: Power Dynamos, Mufulira Wanderers reach quarter-finals, coaches react

Mufulira Wanderers booked a place in the 2026 Absa Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Forest Myooye, as coach Lameck Banda praised his side’s character.

Power Dynamos and Mufulira Wanderers have made it to the quarter-finals of the ABSA Cup after beating Nampundwe FC and Forest Myooye at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.

Goals from Linos Makwaza and Austin Muwowo were enough for Power to march onto the last eight an stay on course for their first Cup since 2011.

Makwaza scored in the 43rd minute after Nampundwe keeper Nash Malambo fumbled the ball allowing the midfielder to pounce.

Leading at the break, Power doubled the lead in the 57th minute with an edge of the box shot from to seal the win.

Power assistant coach was happy with the result.

“It wasn’t a an easy game, we are after the Absa Cup, we haven’t won it in 2011 so it is one of the objectives,” Makwaza said.

And his Nampundwe counterpart Clive Mwansa said playing against Power was not always going to be easy.

“Power is an experienced side. It wasn’t going to be an easy game. We were playing with Champions so I expected that,” Mwansa said.

Earlier, Wanderers booked a place in the 2026 Absa Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Forest Myooye, as coach Lameck Banda praised his side’s character.

A Bartuel Tembo brace secured victory, with goals in the 15th and 85th minutes, setting up a quarter-final clash against the winner of the FC MUZA vs Mushitala tie.

Banda described the match as tough but deserved, adding that his side remains focused on winning the tournament.

Forest Myooye assistant coach Victor Shikabeta blamed the defeat on lack of experience and poor concentration, despite creating chances.

Tembo opened the scoring with a header from a Gilbert Tentani cross before sealing the win late on with a low strike.
