Former Chipolopolo boys striker Collins Mbesuma remains upbeat ahead of his new coaching job as he joins the Randburg AFC U-19 technical bench.
Mbesuma initially joined Randburg AFC as the club’s striker coach last year in August. He has now joined the U-19 team, which competes in the Gauteng Youth League.
The ex-Chipolopolo boys striker will be assisting the head coach for the U19 team but will be in charge as strikers coach.
Since joining the team, they have played two league games so far, winning 2-1 against Prestige and then going on to beat Sundowns 1-0.
Speaking to Bolanews exclusively, Mbesuma said, “I thank God for the job. I started as a strikers coach, then they saw what I was doing, and they asked me to work with the U19. I agreed, and this is my first season,” he said.
“It’s a huge task ahead—the tactical elements of the game. It starts from a young age, where they develop to see Bafana Bafana, Sundowns, and Chiefs play like that. It doesn’t start from there; it starts from the under-6 academy,” he added.
“But so far so good; you need to put in some work as a coach because so much is expected from you. I am up for the challenge and will work hard to ensure I keep growing myself as a coach,” noted Mbesuma.
Mbesuma still holds the record of scoring 35 goals in one single season in the PSL during the 2004-05 campaign.
