The Zambian social media has in the last two days been awash with pictures of Zambia national team legend Kennedy Mweene who has been accused of being a homophile due to the manner he was seen posing in the pictures.
Mweene who is Zambia’s most capped player with 122 appearances for the Chipolopolo boys lives in South Africa where he plays his professional football at Mamelodi Sundowns, with whom he has won the South African league six times.
He has now been forced to turn his Instagram account into a private account following no-stop messages bullying him about his old photos which some social media commentators are insinuating that he posed in a homophilic way, a thing which has caused homophobic attacks towards the goalkeeper from his Zambian followers.
Mweene who holds the record of being the first Zambian goalkeeper to inspire the Chipolopolo boys to an Africa cup of nations victory in 2012, has since been defended by his former teammate and Forest Rangers striker Clifford Mulenga, who has rubbished the accusations in his recent facebook post.

Mulenga who won the 2008 CAF African young player of the year award, has urged Zambians to “calm down” as there is nothing questionable about Kennedy Mweene’s gender, describing all those sending him homophobic messages as “haters”.
Calm down, people. This legendary goalkeeper @kennedyMwene ain’t what y’all haters wanna come up with.
