Green Eagles Women’s team had the ideal result, using home-ground advantage to defeat visiting Elite Ladies FC on Sunday and winning all three points.
Theresa Chewe was on hand to score the opener following a neat pass from skipper Racheal Moono in the 32nd minute.
Provider of the first goal, Moono put the game beyond reach in the 74th minute with a headed effort from a corner kick following a delicious cross from Margaret Sakala.
Eagles shotstopper Loveness Tonge marked her 7th appearance in sensational style with her sixth clean sheet of the season.
Speaking after the game, Albert Joel Mphande highlighted how his opponents made it difficult for him, stating that Elite Ladies are a tricky team to play against.
The victory became the Eagles’ gaffer’s first since taking over the team three seasons ago.
“These are players that know each other very well; it was not the easiest game to win, but I will give credit to the girls.”
He further added, “I am impressed with the attitude, character, and spirit they showed to come back from their loss against the Buffaloes last time out.
“The girls were very solid in defense and controlled the game really well, though there were breakdowns in the midfield.”
He further expressed delight with the impact his substitutes made: “The changes made a difference, but this is now water under the bridge.”
He has since urged the girls to shift their attention to Amazing Grace with the hope that we can continue the winning momentum in the next fixture.
Elite Ladies, on the other hand, are 12th on the log and will shift their attention to Kamfinsa Blue Eagles and will set their sights on getting back to winning ways.
