Gracious in defeat, Gabonese side FC 105 Libreville coach Raphael Pilato has sent his best wishes to Zesco United, hoping the Zambian side will reach the final of the Confederation Cup and win it.
Zesco managed to complete a comeback, seeing off FC 105 Libreville to a 5 – 2 aggregate score line after beating the visitors 5 – 0 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Sunday.
This was in the Confederation Cup preliminary round second leg tie that came on the back of a 2 – 0 loss in the first leg.
Zesco are now one step closer to the group stage, but Pilato is already hoping that the Zambian side can go all the way in Africa’s second biggest club competition.
“Zesco is a good team; they have shown it tactically and technically. It is a supper team and I encourage them to go forward. We want them to go far and win the title so that we can say ‘We lost against a title contender,’” Pilato said.
Zesco’s five – star performance came with goals from David Simukonda who scored in the fourth minute, Kabaso Chongo who scored in the sixth minute and striker Alex Ng’onga.
Others were Kelvin Kampamba and Hiver Amine who put the icing on the cake and helped the team set up a date with Botswana side Zesco will now face Bostwana side Jwaneng Galaxy for a place in the group stage.
Pilato blamed the result on individual errors and a lack of experience from his players.
