Numba Mumamba, the former Zesco United coach, is set to leave Kabwe Warriors and return to Zanaco as head coach.

Numba turned down an offer from Zesco United last week, preferring to stay with Kabwe Warriors. However, BolaNews sources say the 46-year-old has agreed to return to Zanaco.

Numba signed a six-month contract with Kabwe Warriors in December 2022, which was later extended in 2023 until December 2025.

He has been impressive this season in the MTN Super League, propelling the Warriors into the top four in the standings, where they are third with 30 points after 18 games. Numba was also voted as the BolaNews fans’ November coach of the month.

Zanaco has bought out his contract, and the former Konkola Blades player will return to Lusaka.

“Numba is heading to Zanaco; he will soon be unveiled at the Sunset Stadium,” a source told BolaNews. “I am not sure whether he is going with his assistant or not. It seems Zanaco has agreed to buy off his contract with Warriors.”

Numba spent six seasons with Zanaco, where he won the league title in 2016, the ABSA Cup in 2017, and advanced to the group stage of both the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup.

Zanaco is currently 15th in the league standings with 17 points, and Numba is expected to help the bankers avoid relegation.

The team has been led by interim coach Dabid Chilufya, who took over after they decided to part ways with Wedson Nyirenda early this season after a string of poor results that included eleven games with only one win.

Zanaco will play Forest Rangers on Saturday when the league resumes after a three-week break.
