Nkana Football Club returned to winning ways on Saturday with an 3-0 home victory over Green Buffaloes, recovering from their midweek 1-0 loss to Zanaco, after going four matches unbeaten since the arrival of Mwenya Chipepo.
Speaking after the match, Chipepo expressed his delight with the performance of his side, that was coming from defeat to Zanaco on Wednesday this week at Sunset Stadium.
“Very happy. Three points, very important for us. We lost in Lusaka, but today we are very happy because of the three points.”
The victory lifts Nkana to fifth on the league table with 22 points, six behind leaders Kabwe Warriors. Kabwe Warriors climbed to the top of the standings after a crucial away win against Zesco United, who had been leading going into the Week 14 fixtures.
Despite the gap, Chipepo remains optimistic about Nkana’s chances of catching up but acknowledges the challenge ahead.
“Six points. We can catch them if we work very hard. It’s not going to be easy. Like I said, every game we play should be like a cup final.”
Chipepo also revealed his motivational approach after their midweek loss to sensational Zanaco.
“We told the players to forget about the loss in Lusaka. Let’s just behave like we didn’t lose. We gave them confidence and told them to play their own game. You saw how many goals we scored—we scored three, and we could have scored more.“
