Napsa Stars FC secured a one-nil away victory over Zanaco FC in a Lusaka derby at Sunset Stadium on Saturday.
Since beating Indeni 0-2 in their season opener, the Wedson Nyirenda, tutored side have not won a single match in the last ten league fixtures.
Despite the win, assistant coach Lawrence Munsha emphasized the need for steadier performances as the season progresses.
“We will demand for consistence from our players because this season we have won one game and drawn another the following game, so this time we will try and work on consistency and hoping it will work out well for us,” Munsha said.
The victory came at an opportune time for Napsa, as Zanaco now finds themselves deeper in the relegation zone after suffering another league defeat.
Munsha expressed satisfaction with his team’s approach to the match, crediting their preparation for neutralizing Zanaco’s strengths and exploiting their weaknesses.
“We prepared very well for Zanaco. We knew their strength and their weakness; the boys applied [that knowledge] very well today,” he said.
With this win, Napsa has secured bragging rights in the Lusaka derby, a morale boost as they head into yet another high-stakes fixture against Green Buffaloes after the international break.
The upcoming derby poses its own challenges, as Green Buffaloes have had an impressive start to the season. Nevertheless, Napsa’s recent victory has given them a psychological edge heading into the next encounter.
“A derby is not an easy game; it’s always tricky. It feels good to come out victorious in the local derby; at least we have the bragging rights,” Munsha added.
