MTN Super League side Mufulira Wanderers has officially announced the appointment of Tenant Chilumba as their new head coach, who will be assisted by 2012 AFCON winner Joseph Musonda.

Chilumba has signed a contract with the club for two years and eight months. Chilumba takes over for Charles Kafula, who was fired earlier this month due to a poor start to the season.

Mufulira Wanderers are confident in Chilumba’s ability to turn things around, citing his previous experience.

“Mufulira Wanderers Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Tennant Chilumba as the new head coach on a 2-year, 8-month contract,” read the club’s statement. “Chilumba brings a wealth of experience, having managed several Zambian football clubs including Kabwe Warriors, NAPSA Stars, Forest Rangers, and Kansanshi Dynamos. He has also coached in Zimbabwe with Hwange and Platinum. Until recently, he served as the assistant coach at Zesco United.”

Musonda to assist Chilumba

Musonda, who will serve as Chilumba’s assistant, brings his wealth of experience to the technical bench.

“Chilumba will be joined by Joseph Musonda, a 2012 AFCON winner, who takes on the role of assistant coach,” continued the club’s statement. “Musonda has previously been the assistant coach at Nkana Football Club, Prisons Leopards, and most recently at Trident FC.”

Meanwhile, goalkeeper coach Charles Kalumba Mpunga, who had stepped in as interim head coach following Kafula’s departure, will revert to his original role.

“Goalkeeper Coach Charles Kalumba Mpunga continues in his role, alongside Physical Trainer Joseph Sitali, who also remains part of the coaching staff,” the club confirmed.

Mufulira Wanderers are banking on the duo of Chilumba and Musonda to bring stability and improve their standing in the league.
