Why Zesco’s Amine Hiver could be a threat in Zambia vs Chad AfCON qualifier

The 25-year-old announced his arrival in the Zambian league last weekend and is expected to be part of Chad's squad that will face Chipolopolo.

Zesco United signed Amine Hiver, a Chadian international striker from Cameroonian top-tier league side Aigle Royal de La Menoua on a two-year contract in the previous window to replace Enock Sakala, who left the club to join Future FC of Egypt at the end of the previous season.

Hiver debuted for Zesco in the CAF Confederations Cup’s first preliminary round against Dynamos of Zimbabwe last month and has only appeared twice in the MTN Super League.

Last Saturday, the Chadian announced his arrival in the Super League by scoring twice against Nchanga Rangers in Chingola, helping Zesco extend their lead in the standings to 13 points after Week 5 following a 1-2 victory.

“I feel at home at Zesco United. My goal is to become the club’s top scorer,” Hiver said after joining the Ndola side.

Before joining Zesco, Hiver scored nine goals for his former club last season and provided 14 assists. That was just in his one-year stay at the Cameroonian club.

Will he be a threat to Zambia in the AfCON qualifiers?

On November 17, 2023, Hiver made his debut for the Chad national team against Sudan. He went on to play in two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and four World Cup 2026 qualifying matches.

The striker has appeared in each of Chad’s four World Cup qualifiers. However, he has yet to score a goal for the national team in seven appearances.

Hiver also played against Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast earlier this month in the AfCON qualifiers.

He is expected to be part of the Chadian squad that will travel to Zambia for their third AfCON qualifier on October 11, 2024.

Interestingly, the game will be played at Zesco’s home ground, the Levy Mwanawansa stadium, and Hiver will undoubtedly be at home.

Zambia is in second place in Group G with three points from two matches, trailing leaders Ivory Coast, who won both their matches 2-0 against Zambia and Chad.

Sierra Leone and Chad drew 1-1 in the qualifier, placing them third and fourth in their group.
