Nkwazi Football Club head coach Aggrey Chiyangi is pleased with his team’s performance in a 1-1 draw that ended ZESCO United’s perfect start to the 2024/25 Super League in a rescheduled Week 2 match on Wednesday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Nkwazi broke the deadlock with striker Emmanuel Chabula, who beat the offside trap after only 21 minutes of play to give Chiyangi the advantage, ending the first half 1-0.

Chabula celebrates his goal against Zesco United.

At the start of the second half, interim head coach Emmanuel Siwale made three substitutions: John Chingandu, Amine Hiver, and Samson Mkandawire replaced Siankombo, Anthony Chiyuka, and Lindo Mkhonta.

ZESCO maintained their momentum in their pursuit of an equaliser, which came in the 56th minute when David Simukonda scored with a long-range strike outside the 18-yard area.

After conceding, Nkwazi came out of the blocks in search of a goal to reclaim the lead, with Chabula denied in close range by Toaster Nsabata in the 65th minute.

Both teams were unable to find a winner, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

“For us it is a positive; if you see the way ZESCO has been playing, they have been winning all the three last games and coming here to get a point; the players have worked very hard,” Chayangi said after the match. “Even though we had many chances to score, but this is football; there is nothing we can do; we are happy with a point.

“We failed to utilize the chances; we could have won, but I’m happy that the team is improving in terms of fitness; we managed to defend very well.”

ZESCO United remains top of the log with 10 points, while Nkwazi is ninth with 5 points from four matches.
