Mazabuka-based Zambian Super League side, Maestro United(FC Muza) has set their sights on winning the league in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
The club, which finished fourth in the 2023/24 season and missed out on continental football, is determined to return to their former glory.
FC Muza has reappointed coach Lameck Banda, who previously led the team to a second-place league finish and the finals of the ABSA Cup during the 2022/23 season. Under his guidance, the team narrowly missed out on silverware, losing to Forest Rangers on their debut ABSA Cup final. The team struggled to replicate that success under coach Mathews Ndlovu.
Club owner Keith Mweemba has made it clear that the team is preparing rigorously for the new season.
“I will tell you something, as we go into the 2024/25 season, you will see a different Muza altogether because we have already identified where we went wrong last season,” Mweemba stated.
FC MUZA’s previous achievements not a fluke- Mweemba
Despite their achievements, including qualifying for continental football after winning promotion to the MTN Super League, FC Muza faced skepticism from some who believed their success was a fluke. Mweemba, however, dismissed these doubts. “People sometimes think and thought when we qualified for continental football it was just a moment and the team would collapse. The team will never collapse; it has a solid foundation. Anyone who knows football will tell you this is a good team.”
In the 2023/24 season, Muza missed out on their targets of securing continental football and winning the league but managed to qualify for the ABSA Cup and finish in the top four. Mweemba is confident about the upcoming season, stating, “You will see for yourself in the coming season. We are already planning; for us, we never rest. We already know what we are supposed to do for the team.”
Mweemba made these comments in June, following the qualification of the club’s ladies’ team for the national division one football next season.
