Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses will play Zambia’s Copper Queens in the final round of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifiers next month.
The Copper Queens and Atlas Lionesses advanced to the final round after eliminating Ghana and Tunisia, respectively, in the third round.
Morocco’s coach, Jorge Vilda, believes Zambia has quality players who can make an impact.
“I know our next opponent very well since the World Cup. The Zambian team has players who play in Spain,” said the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup winner with Spain, per SNRT NEWS.
Vilda added: “Morocco already faced this team last September and lost in the first match (2-0) and in the second meeting (6-2). It is a team that has elements that can make a difference at the technical and physical level.”
On the other hand, Zambia’s coach, Bruce Mwape, said his lasses are ready to face any opponent.
“We have played Morocco before; we know their strengths and weaknesses,” said Mwape. “So I don’t think there is a team that we can fear at the moment because most of our players have experience; they have played a lot of international games, so I don’t think Morocco can be a problem for us.”
Africa will be represented by only two teams in the 2024 Paris Olympics women’s football competition. Morocco will seek their first qualification for the tournament, while Zambia hopes to qualify for the second time in a row after representing the continent solely at the previous edition in Tokyo.
Nigeria or South Africa will also face off in April for the second spot.
