Petro de Luanda, Arrows reclaim top slots as Zesco, Mamelodi drop points

Power Dynamos, reigning Zambian champions, got off to a great start, defeating Green Eagles 4 nil away win in Choma.

With league matches in full swing in the Cosafa region, Angola’s Petro de Luanda overtook Kabuscorp at the top of the Girabola, while Zesco United and Mamelodi Sundowns both registered 1–1 draws in weekend fixtures, but they still maintained control of their respective league standings.

One point separates Red Arrows FC first placed with 42 points and Zesco United FC in the second position with 40 points from 21 matches played. To avoid relegation, Trident FC, at the bottom of the Zambia Super League needs to gain 14 more points.

With their new coach Oswald Mutapa, Power Dynamos, the reigning champions, got off to a great start, defeating Green Eagles 4-0 away in Choma, while Red Arrows put further pressure on Zesco United by defeating Trident by a goal to nil.

Petro de Luanda takes control of Girabola

In the Girabola, Petro de Luanda’s form is excellent overall with 6 wins, 4 draws, and 0 losses. This performance currently places Petro de Luanda at 1st on the table out of 16 teams, winning 60% of matches.

The gap between Atlético Petróleos Luanda and GD Escolinha Isaac de Benguela at the bottom is 22 points. Point difference between Atlético Petróleos Luanda and second placed GD Sagrada Esperança 1 point. GD Escolinha Isaac de Benguela needs 8 more points to escape relegation.

In the South Africa PSL league, log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns secured a one-all against Orlando Pirates to remain top, that draw however reduced the lead to 9 points between the Brazilians and title chasers, Cape Town City, who were 3-1 victors over Amazulu.

In the Botswana Super League, the point gap between Jwaneng Galaxy FC at the top and Nico United at the bottom is 27 points. There is a one-point difference between second-placed Township Rollers FC and leaders, Galaxy FC on the log. Nico United needs four more points to avoid relegation.
