Following the team’s poor performance in the Cote d’Ivoire Africa Cup of Nations tournament, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) parted ways with Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria and his technical bench.

The seven-time African Champions did not win a single match in the tournament, drawing all of their group-stage games and losing in a penalty shootout to DR Congo in the round of 16.

They were pitted in Group B alongside Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.

Vitoria was appointed Egypt’s head coach on a four-year contract in 2022, but his time with the Pharaohs flopped.

In a statement, the EFA said the coach was relieved of his duties due to poor performance.

“The Board of Directors of the Egyptian Football Association, following its meeting to discuss the technical and administrative reports regarding the national team’s participation in the 2023 African Nations Championship in Cote d’Ivoire, decided to thank the Portuguese Rui Vitoria, the coach of the Egyptian national team and his assistant staff while studying the biographies of foreign coaches and presenting them at the next meeting.
