The 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) continued on Sunday with exciting matchups in Groups A and B, as Senegal climbed to the top of their group ahead of hosts Morocco and Zambia, who played to a 2-2 draw on Saturday. The Teranga Lionesses dominated at the Stade El Bachir in Rabat, defeating the Democratic Republic of Congo with a resounding 4-0 win.

Senegal’s goals came from Mama Diop and Nguenar Ndiaye, both of whom scored braces to secure the three points ahead of their crucial clash against Zambia’s Copper Queens on Wednesday. Morocco will face Congo in their second group match.

In Group B, record holders Nigeria made a strong start to the competition with a 3-0 win over Tunisia. The Super Falcons, aiming for their tenth title, controlled the match, with six-time CAF Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala scoring the opener. Rinsola Babajide and Chinwendu Ihezuo extended the lead with goals in each half.
