Liverpool have had their second and improved bid for Roméo Lavia rejected by Southampton.
Sky Sports understands the offer from the Merseysiders was still below an initial £40m, with Saints wanting £50m for the Belgian international.
Last week the Reds had a £37m bid rejected for the 19 year-old. The Reds hope to make the Belgium midfielder their third signing of the summer.
Lavia remains keen on a move to Anfield but has also attracted interest from Chelsea.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his midfield after the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson.
