BolaBet Group Chief Financial Officer Ray Kumwenda has been elected as the new President of the Bookmakers & iGaming Association of Zambia, marking a significant milestone in the country’s growing gaming and betting industry.
In a statement following his election, Kumwenda expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and outlined his vision for the association’s future.
“I am deeply humbled by the confidence and responsibility entrusted to me,” Kumwenda said after his election. “This is not just a personal milestone, but a collective opportunity to strengthen our industry and its contribution to the Zambian economy.”
Kumwenda emphasized that under his leadership, the association will prioritize compliance, integrity, and accountability within the gaming and betting sector. He noted that ensuring all operators adhere to high operational standards is key to building a credible and sustainable industry.
“As an association, our goal is to foster greater compliance across the sector, ensuring that every operator upholds the highest standards of integrity and accountability,” he said. “At the same time, we aim to enhance revenue collection for the national treasury, while balancing this with the realities faced by operators — businesses that demand significant capital investment and provide meaningful employment to thousands of our brothers and sisters.”
Kumwenda to champion responsible gambling
The new president also reaffirmed the association’s commitment to responsible gambling, a cornerstone of ethical gaming practices.
“Equally important, we will continue to promote responsible gambling, safeguarding both players and the reputation of our industry,” Kumwenda stated.
He added that collaboration will be key to achieving these goals, promising to work closely with regulators, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
“I look forward to collaborating with regulators, policymakers, and fellow stakeholders to build a sustainable, transparent, and growth-oriented gaming sector that benefits all Zambians,” he concluded.
Kumwenda’s election is seen as a pivotal step toward strengthening coordination and professionalism within Zambia’s fast-expanding gaming and iGaming industry, which continues to play a vital role in employment creation and national revenue generation.
