Zesco United’s new Nigerian recruits, Chijioke Alakwe and Pepo Ifoni, have made bold statements following their arrival at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, promising to help the Ndola club win trophies.
Ifoni, 25, has arrived from Sur SC in Oman, while Alakwe has been roped in from Akwa United.
In an interview with the club, Ifoni has promised to help Zesco land more titles, saying, “I am here to entertain and win trophies.”
As for Alakwe, he is aiming to score more goals.
“This is a bold step but I didn’t come to settle; I came to score goals, win trophies and make ZESCO proud,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nigerian journalist Kunle Solaja has tipped the players to add value to Zesco.
“Known for his work ethic and attacking instinct, Chijioke Alakwe has built a solid domestic career and is now poised for further growth, possibly on the continental stage,” Solaja.
On Ifoni, Solaja said the player “is entering a key phase of his career. At Zesco United, he is expected to bring creativity and attacking flair to the Zambian Premier League and the CAF competitions, with hopes of establishing himself as one of the leading Nigerian exports on the continent.”
