ZESCO United are in pole position to sign Chipolopolo midfielder Kelvin Kampamba, although Kitwe giants Nkana and Power Dynamos are still in the chase.
Kampamba is in the country after ending ties with his Libyan side Al–Madina, agreeing that he will not renew his contract when it comes to an end this month.
He has triggered the interest of the three clubs, but it has been established that the player is likely to settle for Zesco.
Sources close to the development have revealed that Kampamba is weighing his options and does not mind returning to Zesco, the club he last played for before leaving for Libya.
“At the moment, Zesco has an upper hand; they have put in a good offer compared to the other two [Power and Nkana],” the source said. “Of course it is not just about the money but also about the relationship.”
Kampamba is weighing the prospects of reuniting with Tenant Chilumba, who is on the verge of being appointed Zesco United coach.
The pair worked together in 2016 when Chilumba was at the helm of Power Dynamos.
While Kampamba has won two league titles with Nkana and had a good spell with Power, the source said the player’s decision will have nothing to do with sentimental attachments.
“The decision is left to the player,” the source said. “He has equally good history with Power and Nkana, but the decision will not be based on that.”
