Zesco United defeated Green Eagles 1-0 in a rescheduled MTN Super League week 4 fixture at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, thanks to a Tandi Mwape penalty kick in the 24th minute, to move atop the standings with 9 points, leapfrogging Nchanga Rangers, who are second with 7 points from four matches.

The Ndola-based club has now won all three Super League matches this season, beginning with a 1-0 victory over Nkana and continuing with a similar win away to Napsa Stars.

Their assistant coach, Clive Hanchilensa, expressed a desire for the team to maintain consistency throughout the season following their exit from the 2024-25 Caf Confederations Cup.

“We are happy with the three points because our objective is to keep the winning ways, which in these three games we have shown. We were happy when we started the league; we were last on the bottom and we find ourselves leading by two points. It’s a good thing for the team,” he said.

“It’s been a marathon; we were placed below with zero points and now we are top with nine points. We will keep working hard and make sure we maintain.”

Zesco United will travel to Chingola for this weekend’s Week 5 Super League against Nchanga Rangers.
