Highlights
  • Zesco United Chairman says the club will soon announce the new coach
  • The Ndola-based side has lost three matches in a row
  • Zesco has only scored one goal in their last three matches but conceded five.

Over the weekend, Zesco United suffered their third successive defeat when they lost 2-0 to Chambishi in the Zambian Super League.

The defeat left the nine-time champions 12th on the log standings with 17 points, a thing which has made almost everyone associated with the club express concerns over the apparent poor start to the season by the Ndola-based team.

Zesco United stand-in head coach Alfred Lupiya described the weekend’s defeat as a crisis that needs urgent attention and blamed it on the attitude of the players.

“The attitude of players has not changed at all,” he told the club’s media team. “The game against Buffaloes was even better but this one was worse. It is a Crisis because this is a big team.”

“I am not happy with the way things are going. I am putting in my best but the work rate of the players is disappointing. No shots on goal and they can’t defend.”

The club chairman Maxwell Saya is also concerned and said management will in the coming days take measures aimed at arresting the current situation at the club both at the technical bench and administrative level.

“We are deeply concerned with the current form of our team. Zesco United is a big football club whose standards should not be below par. The recent three League defeats cannot be ignored,” said Saya.

Meanwhile, several fans of the club and football enthusiasts have taken to social media to air their views on the current happenings at the club.

“NUMBA WAS NOT THE PROBLEM”

FB/Bwezani Mbewe : “BA ZESCO since it’s obvious that United didn’t have a backup plan, I believe that the decision to terminate Numba Mumamba was motivated by emotions. Stop trying to convince us that things aren’t that critical that you might not even make the cut for ABSA CUP. This is serious!

MANAGEMENT SLAMMED

FB/Sydney Monze: When you appointed Kalala as CEO of the club, we questioned his capacity and credentials to run this big club but we were called disrespectful and unreasonable. Clearly you all headwinds there have succeeded in running this club down and it doesn’t seem to bother you. A club that competed at a continental level is failing to win in a domestic league but no one is acting since you still want to run it as your chicken runs in your homes. No gains have been made over the years when clubs we were on the same level with such as Mamelodi Sundowns have made huge steps in being powerful clubs in Africa.

FB/Musonda Chitambala: Everything about Zesco United FC is useless nowadays. The people left to run the club are clueless. Leave football administration to independent people who breathe and live football, not those kandiles you keep on appointing just because they’re Zesco ltd employees. Too much utuchawa with no football brains.

FB/Miriam Chonya Nalungwe: Management and technical bench are useless we need to change it as quickly as possible

PLAYERS SIGNED NOT TOP LEVEL, NUMBA FAILED

FB/Romes Tapfumaneyi: Buying and scouting of players are wrong, the technical bench is wrong with students on attachments. Release some players who are adding no value to the team and bring back Wada Wada.

FB/James Nyirenda: Numba failed to meet some of the targets set by the club when he was hired. That’s the reason why he was fired. As a coach, he was given the task to reach the group stage which he failed to do so on two occasions. He also failed to win the league and ABSA Cup all of which contributed to the firing of the coach.
