Aba Yellow have been viewed as underachievers in the Super League for a while, but this season they have excelled, going from being relegation survivors under Mwenya Chipepo last season to finishing the first half of the season at the summit of the table.
With 35 points, Power Dynamos Football club are now in first place, six points ahead of Green Buffaloes in second, who, like Forest Rangers, have 29 points.
Power Dynamos are strong contenders for the league title they last won in 2011, having played just 17 games.
The Kitwe-based side is also looking to bounce back on the continental scene by winning the Super League, which they seem to have under control.
Their last outing in continental football was in 2014 when they were runners-up to Zesco United in the domestic league, and they have struggled to win 18 matches in a single campaign since 2016.
They had been having trouble finding a consistent goal scorer for some time, but this season, Kennedy Musonda’s 11 goals have made all the difference. The former Green Eagles striker has taken the league by storm as he sits atop the scorers’ table.
INCREDIBLE SCORING FORM AND DEFENSE
Dynamos have scored 24 goals, which is the most goals scored by any team in the league thus far.
Strikers Brian Mwila and Joshua Mutale, who have each scored three and two goals, have also contributed to the team’s goals.
The manner they have gained points both at home and away sets them apart from the Power Dynamos of the previous season having defeated reigning champions, Red Arrows, 4-0 to close out the first half.

They have only lost once, to Green Eagles on the road, and once, to Green Buffaloes at Arthur Davies. They have won five games on the road and earned at least a point against sides that are often thought of as title contenders, including a 0-1 victory at Nkana Stadium in the Kitwe derby.
Along with Forest Rangers, who have also conceded seven goals, Dynamos have been one of the Super league’s best defensive teams.
As of right now, they have won 10 of the remaining 17 games, leaving them with just 3 victories needed to surpass their season victory total from last season (13 victories overall).
TECHNICAL BENCH BALANCED
With Mwenya Chipepo, Linos Makwaza, and Songwe Chalwe joining forces on the technical bench, the mentality of the team has changed, and they look to be playing with a strong sense of belief and passion to battle for the club’s legacy.

In addition to rebuilding confidence, the technical bench is also made up of the club’s former players who are well aware of the team’s philosophy of play, which is based on possession-based passing.
Power Dynamos have so far defied the “big boys” of the Zambian Super League despite the fact that the season is far from over.
On January 7, 2022, they will play Nkwazi at Arthur Davies Stadium in their return to Super League action, but without spectators.

In 1991, Power Dynamos became the first club from Southern Africa to win the African Winners Cup, making them the only club from Zambia to win a continental trophy.
The six-time Zambian Super League champions are now looking to win their seventh league title.
