Nkana Football Club head coach, Mwenya Chipepo, expressed his delight after his team’s 1-0 victory over Red Arrows in a Week 27 MTN Super League match at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka. The win sees Nkana rise to third place with 46 points, just two points behind second-placed ZESCO United and five points off leaders Power Dynamos.
Chipepo was thrilled to secure his first win in Lusaka, which propelled the team into third position. Reflecting on the match, he acknowledged the challenge of facing the defending champions. “We were playing the Red Arrows, but it wasn’t an easy game. They have good players, and they are well-experienced. But we just had to make sure that at least we had one chance, which is good, the second half,” Chipepo said.
Addressing the possibility of a title challenge, he emphasized a focused approach: “We just take each game as it comes. There’s no underrating. All the teams know that we are playing good football.” While acknowledging the difficulty of maintaining a perfect record, Chipepo expressed determination:
“It’s not going to be easy for us to win all the games, but we’ll be taking each game like a cup final.”
Chipepo also highlighted the return of injured players, noting the positive impact of Chitoshi’s performance. “We’re just waiting for Harrison [Chisala] and Charles [Zulu]. We’ll get back to winning ways,” he added.
The Nkana coach celebrated the significance of the victory, saying, “Since I joined the Nkana, we’ve never won in Lusaka. So it means a lot, and we have been encouraged. Looking forward to another game on Thursday.”
