Nigerian attacker Quadri Kola has said his side Forest Rangers will survive relegation from the MTN Super League this season with no doubt despite currently sitting fourth from the bottom in the red zone of the standings
Forest has 22 points from 20 matches this season. To move out of the relegation zone, they must win this weekend and hope teams above them drop points.
They’ve won five, drawn seven, and lost eight matches. Forest defeated Green Buffaloes 3-2 to claim their fifth victory of the season, with Ian Bakala, who won the ABSA Cup two years ago, returning to the club after being dismissed by Nkana.
Kola, the club’s current top scorer with seven goals and eight assists, believes the team has what it takes to avoid relegation.
“Yes for now we are fighting relegation, but we have the calibre of players who can do better and I know the team won’t be relegated,” he said.
He continued, “We will fight in the games that are remaining with so that we maintain [our] Super League [status]. We will keep fighting from the start to the end and I know with the hard work everyone is putting in, we are definitely going to survive.”
Kola eyes Golden Boot
The Nigerian also has his eyes on the Super League’s Golden Boot accolade.
“I’m trying to push harder to score more goals and compete with the players who are fighting for the Golden Boot this season. I know with the hard work and commitment I am putting into the team I will do better and get the top scorers award. That’s why I fight in each game to get a goal.”
Kola joined Forest Rangers after being released by Zesco United in 2020, and he has since become an important player for the Ndola-based club.
Forest will face Power Dynamos at Ndola’s Dolahill Stadium on Saturday in Week 21.
