Zesco United have cut the gap at the top of the MTN Super League table to just four points after a narrow but crucial 1-0 victory over Lumwana Radiants on Monday afternoon at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The result, coming in a Week 32 fixture, keeps Zesco’s hopes alive with just two games left to play. Interim head coach Emmanuel Siwale was pleased with the win and praised his players for grinding out the result in what he called a challenging match.
“I can only say I am happy for the team for the boys because we have collected maximum points, although it was a very difficult game,” Siwale said in a post-match interview.
Power Dynamos, who remain top of the table, are just one win away from being crowned 2024/25 champions. But Siwale insists his team is focused on their performance and will keep fighting until the final whistle of the season.
“What is important is for us to have collected the maximum points. We will just concentrate on ourselves so that we can push until the end.”
Focus On Our Team- Siwale
Zesco are now on 60 points, five ahead of third-placed Nkana, who are also chasing a spot in continental football next season. Siwale made it clear that his side won’t be distracted by what their rivals are doing.
“We shouldn’t mind other business; we may lose sight of or focus. We have to concentrate on our game.”
Zesco’s next match is against relegation-threatened Mutondo Stars. Siwale expects another difficult encounter but says the target remains the same—three points.
“We want to win each and every game. We now shift our focus to Mutondo. I know it’s another tough game; we just have to go push and collect maximum points.”
