The top spot was up for grabs between Zesco United and Red Arrows, with whom an opportunity arose after both MUZA and Nkwazi failed to win before Sunday’s action.
Zesco United welcomed struggling Nkana Football Club, who have been dwelling in the bottom four since the start of the season.
Harrison Chisala scored from the penalty spot for the Kitwe side in the fifth minute to break the deadlock.
It took the home side until the 44th minute to find an equalizer through Abraham Siankombo from a free kick.
Zesco came out firing in the second half, taking the lead in the 66th minute through substitute Enock Sakala Jr., who headed in a Kelvin Kampamba free kick outside the Nkana area.
Things then went from bad to worse for Kalampa after Oliver Lumbiya was shown a red card.
Sakala’s double for Zesco
The game was put beyond reach for Nkana when Sakala completed his brace in injury time to secure a 3-1 win for Zesco.
The loss meant Nkana remained rooted in the bottom four. They are sitting second-last in the standings, with 9 points from a possible 39.
However, speaking to journalists after the game, Nkana head coach, Ian Bakala said, “We played well despite the loss. I think it’s a phase we are going through.”
