Super League side Red Arrows FC have warned of serious action against supporters involved in the fracas during their league tie against Power Dynamos.
The two clubs’ top-of-the-table midweek clash was marred by violence after a supporter invaded the pitch in an alleged attempt to assault the match official.
What followed was a serious clash between the two sets of supporters, an incident that has already attracted attention from the Zambia Premier League (ZPL).
Several fans were injured and rushed to the Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Arrows, the host team that could face sanctions for failing to provide adequate security, have since broken their silence, condemning the act and promising to deal with the perpetrators.
“Red Arrows Football Club unequivocally condemns the acts of violence and hooliganism that transpired following yesterday’s rescheduled Week 18 fixture between Red Arrows FC and Power Dynamos FC at Nkoloma Stadium.
“Appropriate and decisive action will be taken against all parties found responsible, in strict adherence to established rules and regulations,” a club statement read in part.
The club has pledged full cooperation with the Zambia Premier League (ZPL) and all relevant authorities as investigations into the incident continue.
It also thanked medical personnel for their swift action to attend to the injured fans.
“Red Arrows Management extends its profound gratitude to the medical team at Nkoloma Stadium mini-clinic and to the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) medical personnel (who were among the spectators) for their prompt intervention and provision of first aid to sixteen supporters from both teams,” the statement read.
