Week 13 of the MTN Super League produced pivotal results across the board, as Red Arrows maintained their hold on top spot, Nchanga Rangers climbed into third, Green Eagles and Green Buffaloes shared the points, while Nkana, Nkwazi, Konkola Blades, Mutondo Stars, and others saw their league fortunes shift in a weekend that tightened battles at both the top and bottom of the table.
Konkola Blades 1–1 Red Arrows
Konkola Blades earned a point at home in a hard-fought contest against Red Arrows. The Blades took the lead in the 36th minute when Glen Afful finished off a well-worked move. Red Arrows responded strongly in the second half, and their pressure was rewarded when Albert Kangwanda scored the equalizer in the 67th minute. Both teams searched for a late winner, but the match ended in a fair 1–1 draw, reflecting a competitive and entertaining encounter.
Red Arrows remain at the top of the table with 28 points from 12 matches, while Konkola Blades are 9th with 17 points.
Nkana FC 1–0 Napsa Stars
Nkana FC secured an important home victory to continue their rise up the standings. The only goal of the match came in the 38th minute, when Idriss Ilunga Mbombo converted a well-crafted chance to put his side ahead. Nkana controlled the game thereafter, fending off Napsa Stars’ attempts to find an equalizer. This victory boosts Nkana’s confidence as they remain firmly in the hunt for a higher league position.
Nkana FC, however, find themselves in 16th place with 11 points, still needing more consistent results to climb out of the relegation zone. Napsa Stars are just above them in 11th place with 12 points.
Green Eagles 1–1 Green Buffaloes
Green Eagles and Green Buffaloes shared the spoils in a closely contested encounter. Buffaloes took the lead early, with Erick Chomba scoring in the 13th minute to give the visitors an early advantage. However, the Eagles came out strong in the second half, pressing for an equalizer, and their persistence paid off when Collins Sikombe found the back of the net in the 69th minute. Both teams pushed for a late winner, but neither could break the deadlock, resulting in a fair 1–1 draw.
In the current standings, Green Eagles sit in 7th place with 19 points from 13 matches, while Green Buffaloes are slightly behind in 10th place with 17 points.
Mutondo Stars 0–0 Mufulira Wanderers
Mutondo Stars and Mufulira Wanderers played out a goalless draw in a match where neither side was able to find the breakthrough. Both teams struggled to create clear chances, with midfield battles and solid defending taking center stage. While there were brief moments of promise, neither side could muster a decisive spark in the final third, resulting in a point each for both teams in a match characterized by defensive discipline rather than attacking flair.
Mutondo Stars are currently 13th in the standings with 11 points, while Mufulira Wanderers are in 8th place with 19 points.
Nkwazi FC 0–1 Nchanga Rangers
Nchanga Rangers claimed a well-deserved away win against Nkwazi. After a cautious first half, Rangers stepped up in the second half, with Elliot Kampukesa scoring the only goal of the match in the 51st minute. Nkwazi pushed forward in search of an equalizer but found it difficult to break down Rangers’ disciplined defense. The win moves Nchanga Rangers up to 3rd place with 23 points, while Nkwazi are 14th with 10 points.
Meanwhile, Zesco and Power Dynamos were not in action this weekend due to their CAF engagement.
